If you can answer yes to these questions then perhaps you’d like to express your interest in becoming a Volunteer Trustee.

The Secret Space are looking to increase the number of Trustees that we have on the Board and would welcome applications from anyone that can demonstrate one or more of the following skills and experience either professionally or privately:

  • Fundraising

  • Volunteer support

  • Marketing

  • Administration

  • Website design and management

  • People management and leadership

  • Financial

  • Charities Governance

 

You'll be working with current Trustees, the Centre Administrator, the wonderful staff and extremely valuable volunteers who are all working together to secure our future as a charity and social enterprise.

You'll be contributing to the health and wellbeing of local residents and the wider community in Hertfordshire.

Role description

 The Board of Trustees meets monthly, sometimes in person, sometimes virtually - we know that the time volunteers can provide varies and we ask that preparation and attendance at Board meetings is the minimum time commitment.

 Trustees have legal responsibility for a charity’s management and administration.  You will work with the Board of Trustees to ensure that the organisation complies with its governance document, charity law, company law, employment law and any other relevant regulations, that the Secret Space pursues its objectives and that the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its statutory requirements.

 In the position of a Trustee you can expect to actively contribute by providing strategic direction to the organisation including setting policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets. You will need to prepare, attend, and contribute to monthly board meetings. You will bring specific skills, knowledge, and experience to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions.

 The Trustees safeguard the reputation and values of the organisation by acting in accordance with the aims, objectives and values of The Secret Space, within the requirements of The Charity Commission. Trustees represent the organisation as agreed, promoting and protecting the reputation with all stakeholders and the general public.

 This role actively contributes to the effective and efficient running of the organisation, working collaboratively with other trustees, to help ensure the financial stability of the organisation, considered investment of its funds, implementing the Board’s decisions, and supporting share the workload of the organisation.

  • Ability to bring specific skills, experience and perspective to the board.

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

  • A knowledge of the local area (Hertford, Hertfordshire)

We are a small charity with a large remit. The support you provide to our organisation and the Board will strengthen how much we can do for our beneficiaries by ensuring internal effectiveness and supporting The Secret Space to deliver our strategic vision.
