Yoga Therapy and Trauma Sensitive Yoga
Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy is a holistic approach to healing that uses the principles and practices of yoga therapeutically, such as asana, breathwork and meditation in a 1:1 setting.
The aim of yoga therapy is to create a personalized and adaptable practice that meets the needs of each individual, promoting balance and harmony, addressing not only symptoms but also the root causes of the issues.
The goal of yoga therapy is to empower individuals to take an active role in their own well-being, fostering a sense of self-empowerment and self-care.
It can be applied to a variety of health concerns such as chronic pain, anxiety, various physical ailments & trauma related symptoms.
TCTSY - Trauma-Sensitive Yoga
TCTSY stands for Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga. It is a specific type of yoga practice developed to treat complex trauma and related symptoms. TCTSY was developed by David Emerson and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk at the Trauma Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
It is often used as a complementary approach alongside traditional psychotherapy and medical interventions.
TCTSY is grounded in the understanding that trauma is held within the body, and traditional yoga approaches may not always be suitable for people who have experienced trauma. This approach to yoga emphasizes principles of safety, choice making and empowerment.
The practice of TCTSY aims to create a non-judgmental and supportive environment where individuals can explore their own sensations, movements and breath in a way that feels safe and comfortable. Ultimately leading participants away from fear and discomfort within themselves to a feeling of safety, empowerment, and embodiment.
