I trained as a fitness instructor and personal trainer in the 90's, and the message was very clear back then, "no pain, no gain", but for me I have always shied away from causing injury to myself, and to others.
In 2016 I became seriously ill with depression and other mental health related illnesses. I was unwell for over three years. I was unable to work, my memory was unreliable, my cognitive functioning was severely impacted, and I could not drive. It was a very scary and frightening time. Prior to this I had raised a family, qualified with a degree, worked as a teacher and managed a children’s charity.
Over time, and with treatment, coaching, support, self determination, and self-care, I was able to make a full recovery. Practicing yoga, and using the tools I learned through wellness coaching were the key factors that helped me to recover. Yoga helped my body to release built up tension and to relax, and through using coaching tools I was able to identify and address the issues that had caused me to become so unwell in the first place. Although my journey has been overwhelming, it has also been life changing. I have been able to get back to work, retraining and changing my career focus towards wellbeing.
I believe that having emotional resilience, and a positive mindset that is open to growth, lays the foundation for creating a healthy and balanced lifestyle, which lends itself to harmony, but also empowers people to plan and to achieve the best life that they can.
I believe that my illness was a gift given to me, it has taught me that no one is immune, and that life stressors, of a busy paced lifestyle can take its toll on anyone.
My passion is to support people to become empowered to be able to manage their mental health and to develop strategies to bring about positive changes in their lives.
I hold a 200 hour Scaravelli Inspired Yoga Teacher Certificate. Additionally, I am also qualified in Exercise Teaching (Land and Water), Reiki Master, Wellbeing Coach and currently studying sound healing. My yoga training is underpinned by Patanjali's 8 limbs of yoga. All classes that I teach are very adaptive and tend to flow in an organic way depended on the students within the class.ll.
